India’s travel sector is expanding beyond domestic dependence, with airlines adding long-haul aircraft, online travel companies chasing outbound demand, hotels building overseas footprint, and B2B platforms finding growth in other regions. Domestic travel remains strong, but increasingly, India is becoming both a global source market and a global hub.

Flattish Domestic Growth: In the quarter gone by, travel in India has been hounded by several disruptions – a geopolitical war, a major aviation tragedy, and excessive rains. In their earnings calls, several travel players said that domestic growth remained flattish, and it was international business that brought them profits. 

IndiGo’s CFO Gaurav Negi said, “We added capacity in an optimized manner and grew by around 3% in terms of seat deployment and around 8% in terms of average seat kilometers. This resulted in a flattish domestic capacity growth and a growth of more than 26% in the international s
